Although the industry has typically been covered regionally (usually when a new arcade bar opens, and a local media outlet covers the story), more mainstream national outlets are starting to take notice.
The Hollywood Reporter put out a feature titled, How Arcade Bars Are Reviving a Decades-Old Subculture, noting:
Thirty-five years after the sun set on the “Golden Age” of arcades, taverns touting cabinet gaming rigs and craft beers are suddenly back in fashion.
CBS News did a feature story on the resurgence of pinball, and noted in the video arcade bars’ role in its modern popularity.
Even the notorious right-wing blog Breitbart authored a story titled Bringing Arcades Back, One Bar at a Time, noting
Now “barcades” are bringing it back, with righteous hipster entrepreneurs at the helm. Craft beers and quarters are the order of the day, combined to create an atmosphere that both nostalgic adults and their children can enjoy. The proprietor of Button Mash said that they would be hosting a seven-year-old’s birthday party, and a fortieth just hours later.
The industry has grown to national prominence, and continues to grow with each day. Come to think of it…. now, more than ever, would be a great time to sign up for the Arcade Bar Scene e-newsletter to stay on top of it all. eepurl.com/cxzM4r
